Baptism & Thanksgiving

Baptism (often called a christening) marks the beginning of a journey with God, at whatever age or stage of life, and is a journey that continues for the rest of our lives.

This first step is a response to God’s love, when parents and godparents promise to help bring up the child in the Christian faith.

It is also a celebration, a time to come together with family and friends to remember your child is loved by God, is part of a wider community, and is welcomed into the family of the church.

If you would like any further information and to discuss a Christening, adult Baptism or Thanksgiving at St. James' Church, please get in touch via the Contact Form.

Confirmation

Confirmation can be an important part of a lifetime journey of faith as a follower of Jesus Christ.

Confirmation is a special church service in which a person confirms the promises that were made when they were baptised. If you were baptised at a christening when you were a child, your parents and godparents made these promises on your behalf. As a young person or adult, you may be ready to affirm these promises for yourself and commit your life to following Jesus Christ.

If you would like any further information and to discuss a confirmation at St. James' Church, please get in touch via the Contact Form.

Wedding Rings

Weddings

Marrying in church is personal, meaningful and spiritual just as you want it to be. Churches are special and unique places to get married in - the prayers, promises and the whole service of celebration become part of your marriage, on the day itself and beyond.

To find out more about getting married in church, visit the Church of England’s website Your Church Wedding for lots of information about how to plan your wedding ceremony and thoughts about marriage itself.

If you would like to consider getting married at St. James' Church, please get in touch via the Contact Form.

Funerals

If someone you know and love has died, a funeral led by a Church of England minister can be held in church, in a churchyard, by a graveside, or at a crematorium. The minister will be there to support you every step of the way.

From the moment you are in touch with us, throughout the funeral service, and for as long as you need us afterwards, we're here for you.

If you would like any support, or to arrange a service at St. James' Church, please get in touch via the Contact Form.
